Workiz vs Housecall Pro (2026): Which Should You Pick?
Workiz is built around the phone: calls, recordings and AI answering tied to every job. Housecall Pro is built around the customer: estimates with options, online booking and review requests. We ran a real job through Housecall Pro and compared it with Workiz's current plans, plan by plan.

The short version
Workiz is the pick when calls are your lifeline: its phone system records, transcribes and tracks every call to the job it produced, and its AI can answer when nobody can. Housecall Pro is the pick when customers find you online: estimates with good, better and best options, online booking and review requests on every plan, and prices you can see before you talk to anyone. The question that decides it: do your jobs start with a phone call or a click?
How we compared them
We signed up for Housecall Pro's 14-day trial in October 2026 and ran a real job through it: a customer, an estimate with two options, approval into a job, scheduling, completion and a paid invoice, in about seven minutes. Read the full Housecall Pro review for what we saw. For Workiz we used its pricing page, feature pages and help center as they stood on October 27, 2026.
Pricing
Housecall Pro publishes its plans. Billed annually, Basic is $59/mo for 1 user, Essentials $149/mo for up to 5 and MAX $299/mo for up to 8; month to month they are $79, $189 and $329. Extra users are $35/mo, and add-ons like the Sales Proposal Tool and Recurring Service Plans are $40/mo each below MAX.
Workiz stopped publishing prices in 2026. Standard, Pro and Ultimate all say "Request pricing", and its FAQ says annual billing saves $400 or more over monthly. The phone system, AI answering and marketing are listed as add-ons, so make sure your quote says which ones are included. If you want to compare without a sales call, Housecall Pro is the only one of the two that lets you.
Phone and calls: where Workiz wins
Workiz's Genius Phone puts calls, texts and email in one inbox, records and summarizes calls, and tracks each number from lead to job to repeat customer. Smart routing, call masking and call tags round it out. Genius Answering picks up missed calls and messages 24/7, books jobs and answers questions about your services and prices, in English, Spanish or French. For a locksmith, appliance repair or garage door company that lives on inbound calls, that is the main reason to choose Workiz.
Housecall Pro has an AI answering add-on too (CSR AI, which we saw offered inside the app), but the phone is not the center of the product the way it is in Workiz.
Estimates, booking and reviews: where Housecall Pro wins
In our test, Housecall Pro's estimates were its strongest feature. You can put several options side by side, each with its own items and price, an AI button writes the line descriptions, and approving an option copies it straight into a job. Online booking and review management are included even on Basic, and the invoice lives inside the job, ready when the work is done.
Workiz includes estimates on every plan, but sales proposals are on Ultimate and reputation management sits in its Genius Marketing add-on.
Back office
- QuickBooks: Workiz includes it from Standard. Housecall Pro needs Essentials ($149/mo billed annually).
- Automations: Workiz caps them by plan: 5 on Standard, 10 on Pro, 30 on Ultimate.
- Service plans, flat rate and checklists: on Workiz they are Ultimate features. Housecall Pro has flat rate and checklists on Essentials, and Recurring Service Plans as a $40/mo add-on that MAX includes.
- Multiple locations: Workiz has multi-location management from Pro and franchise management on Ultimate. Housecall Pro's plans top out at 8 users plus $35 per extra user, and we did not see multi-location tools on them.
Which trades suit each
Workiz fits call-driven trades: locksmiths, appliance repair, garage doors, junk removal and HVAC service with a dispatcher on the phones. Housecall Pro fits residential HVAC, plumbing, electrical, cleaning and other businesses that sell with estimates and win repeat work through reviews and online booking.
The verdict
Choose Workiz if calls are your main source of jobs and you want them recorded, tracked and answered by AI, or if you run several locations. Choose Housecall Pro if you sell through estimates and online booking and want a published price and a 14-day trial. Both let you try before you pay, so book the same test job in each. See our Housecall Pro alternatives for other options, or Workiz vs Service Fusion if flat pricing for a bigger team matters more.
Choose Workiz if…
Your phones ring all day, you want every call recorded, tracked to the job and answered by AI after hours, or you run several locations. You're fine getting a quote from sales.
Choose Housecall Pro if…
Your growth comes from estimates, online booking and reviews, and you want a published price and a longer trial. Teams of 1 to 8 fit its plans best.
